To accommodate a family of four, the existing house with its traditional, opaque layout was updated. The overhaul began at the entry, creating an inviting atmosphere for homeowners and visitors alike. Enhancing mobility and connection between areas, an obstacle that secluded the kitchen from its backyard entrance was removed, achieving greater fluency on the ground floor. Inspired by cherished university memories of gardens, the architect transformed the original staircase’s opaque envelope into a vibrant vertical garden. This innovative indoor garden, combined with a multi-story bookshelf popularized in the architect's previous project, seamlessly integrates engineering skill with a love of gardening. The ash bookshelf, displaying travel souvenirs and a personal book collection, creates a natural backdrop for family gatherings, public broadcasts, and media interviews. The kitchen island features a unique design where the dining table can slide out for formal dining or slide back in, freeing up space for play and social occasions. This blend of creativity and functionality breathes new life into the home, enhancing the family's living experience.
